The Treatment

More than microneedling

Morpheus8 is a subdermal adipose remodelling device (SARD) developed by InMode. It pairs fine microneedles with fractional radiofrequency energy to reach depths that standard microneedling cannot, triggering tissue contraction and sustained collagen production in the dermis and subdermis simultaneously.

The result is a treatment capable of addressing both surface-level concerns (texture, pores, fine lines) and deeper structural issues (skin laxity, fat remodelling, jowl definition) in a single session.

  • FDA-cleared for full-body subdermal adipose tissue remodelling
  • Adjustable depth from 0.5mm to 8mm for precise targeting
  • Interchangeable tips: 12-pin for delicate areas, 24-pin for face, 40-pin for body
  • Safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types, including darker skin tones
  • Minimal risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation compared to laser

Fractional Radiofrequency

Bipolar RF energy is emitted from the needle tips into targeted zones of the dermis and subcutaneous fat, generating precise thermal injury that signals the body to produce new collagen and elastin.

Microneedling

The array of coated, insulated needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin. The insulation protects the epidermis as energy is concentrated at the needle tips, reducing surface trauma.

Fractional Delivery

Treatment zones are created in a fractional pattern, leaving surrounding tissue intact to accelerate healing. This makes Morpheus8 suitable for all skin tones with very low risk of hyperpigmentation.

The Process

How Morpheus8 works

The treatment unfolds in four biological stages, each contributing to a progressive improvement in skin quality.

01

Needle insertion

The handpiece delivers 24 gold-coated, insulated microneedles into the skin at a programmed depth between 0.5 and 8mm. The insulated shaft protects the upper epidermis from thermal energy.

02

RF energy delivery

Bipolar radiofrequency energy is emitted at the needle tips, heating the dermis and subdermis to a controlled therapeutic temperature. This causes immediate tissue contraction.

03

Healing response

The controlled thermal injury triggers the body's natural wound-healing cascade, stimulating fibroblast activity and neocollagenesis: the production of fresh collagen and elastin fibres.

04

Sustained remodelling

New collagen matures and remodels over three to six months following treatment, producing gradual, progressive skin tightening that continues to improve well after the appointment itself.

Clinical evidence: A review published in Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine confirms that radiofrequency microneedling, including Morpheus8, is a safe and effective intervention for a range of aesthetic and dermatological conditions across all skin types. The authors note its suitability for skin rejuvenation, acne scarring, and body concerns such as cellulite and stretch marks. View source →

Results

When will you see results?

Morpheus8 works on two timescales: an immediate response and a longer-term remodelling process that continues for months.

Days 1–5

Immediate skin tightening

Thermal energy causes immediate collagen contraction. Some tightening and a healthy glow may be noticeable once initial redness settles.

Weeks 2–4

Visible improvement begins

New collagen fibres start forming. Skin texture refines, pores appear smaller, and early lifting becomes noticeable.

Months 1–3

Progressive tightening

The cumulative effect of a treatment course is well underway. Jawline definition, skin firmness, and scar improvement become clearly apparent.

Months 3–6

Peak results

Collagen remodelling continues for up to six months post-treatment. This is when patients typically see the most significant improvements in skin density, laxity, and overall appearance.

Beyond 6 Months

Long-lasting maintenance

Results are long-lasting. Annual top-up sessions, or complementary treatments such as Forma, help maintain and extend the improvements achieved.

How It Compares

Morpheus8 vs. surgical facelift

For many patients, Morpheus8 delivers the improvement they are looking for, without the risks and recovery time that surgery requires.

Factor Morpheus8 Surgical Facelift
Anaesthetic Topical numbing cream only General or IV sedation required
Downtime 24–72 hours of mild redness Minimal 2–4 weeks of restricted activity Significant
Scarring risk None Incision scars (typically hidden in hairline)
Skin type suitability All Fitzpatrick types I–VI Type-dependent; variable risk
Results timeline Progressive over 3–6 months Visible once swelling resolves (weeks)
Results duration Years, with maintenance sessions 5–10 years
Degree of correction Mild to moderate laxity Moderate to significant laxity
Cost Significantly lower Considerably higher

Individual results vary. A personalised assessment will determine which approach best suits your anatomy, skin condition, and goals.

Questions Answered

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking your first Morpheus8 session.

Standard microneedling creates micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen via mechanical wounding. Morpheus8 combines this with bipolar radiofrequency energy delivered precisely at the needle tips, heating the dermis and subdermis to therapeutic temperatures. This allows it to treat deeper tissue layers, remodel subdermal fat, and drive more substantial collagen production than standard microneedling alone.
A topical anaesthetic cream is applied 45–60 minutes before treatment to minimise discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as mild pressure or warmth rather than pain. Deeper settings and bony areas (such as the jawline) may feel more intense, but the numbing cream makes the overall experience very manageable. Tolerance varies between individuals.
Most patients achieve optimal results with a course of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Some individuals with milder concerns may see significant improvement after one or two sessions, while those with greater laxity or acne scarring may benefit from additional treatments. Your practitioner will recommend a personalised plan following a free consultation.
Yes. Morpheus8 is cleared for safe use on Fitzpatrick skin types I through VI, including deeper skin tones. The insulated needle design concentrates radiofrequency energy in the dermis rather than the epidermal surface, significantly reducing the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) that can occur with laser-based treatments. A published review in Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine confirms Morpheus8 is appropriate for all skin types. View source.
Most patients experience mild redness and slight swelling for 24–48 hours. Small pinpoint marks at the needle entry points may remain visible for two to three days. The majority of patients return to their normal routine the same day or the following morning. Strenuous exercise and direct sun exposure should be avoided for a few days, and a high-factor SPF should be worn daily post-treatment.
Morpheus8 complements many other aesthetic treatments. It is commonly paired with Profhilo or skin boosters for additional hydration, dermal fillers for volume restoration, or Forma for non-invasive maintenance between sessions. Your practitioner will advise on the ideal sequencing and combination based on your specific goals.
Results are long-lasting. Because the treatment stimulates the body's own collagen production rather than introducing a temporary filler, improvements in skin firmness and texture can persist for years. Natural ageing continues, so maintenance sessions once or twice a year help sustain and build upon the original results.
Morpheus8 by InMode is FDA-cleared for full-body subdermal adipose tissue remodelling, covering both facial and body applications. Clinical trials, including NCT05085730 at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, have assessed its safety and effectiveness in skin quality improvement and dermal line treatment.
